DLH recognized as joint sector leader by the Forest Footprint Disclosure Project
On the Second Annual Review of The Forest Footprint Disclosure Project (FFD) launched on 27th January 2011, DLH was recognized as joint sector leader in the Industrials, Construction and Autos sector.
"This recognition shows how committed companies can achieve high standards in managing the important issue of deforestation” says Peter K. Kristensen, Vice-President CSR & Environment.
What is FFD?
FFD was launched in June 2009 with the aim of helping companies improve their understanding of a “forest footprint” generated by the use of key forest risk commodities such as timber, soy, palm oil, cattle products and biofuels. Participating companies are required to disclose what they are doing to manage the impacts that their operations and supply chains have on forests worldwide. DLH participated in the 2010 Annual Review by reporting on the management of its timber supply chain.
DLH and responsible supply chain management
Deforestation is one of the most serious problems we face today, as forests are of vital environmental, social, and economic importance. Forests help regulate the climate and act as natural carbon sinks by capturing CO2 and thereby reducing its concentration in the atmosphere. Forests also house more than half the world’s species of animals, birds and insects, and provide for the livelihoods of around 400 million of the world’s poorest people. It is therefore important that business organizations engage in the protection of the forests.
DLH has over the years been committed to manage its timber supply chain in a responsible manner and this recognition we received from FFD is an acknowledgement to many years of hard work.
